POSITION: Barber Instructor Part-Time — Amarillo Nights
DESCRIPTION:
The Barber Instructor is responsible for the success of the total teaching/learning process within the assigned classroom, laboratory, shop, or other learning environment. The instructor is responsible for providing effective instruction in barbering courses and supporting students in developing the skills, knowledge, professionalism, and safety practices required for the barbering profession.
The instructor is supervised by the Program Coordinator or Program Director, the Division Director, and the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs. The instructor has primary responsibility in academic matters for the content, quality, and effectiveness of the assigned curriculum and has the opportunity to participate in instructional governance and influence institutional policy and practice through the role of instructor and regular committee assignments.
- Perform and carry out the teaching assignment in an effective and efficient manner.
- Teach assigned barbering courses using the approved course of study, established curriculum, textbooks, instructional materials, and applicable program requirements.
- Provide instruction in classroom, laboratory, shop, clinical, or other learning environments as assigned.
- Establish and maintain appropriate office hours.
- Work individually and collaboratively with others to recruit new students and work to retain current students.
- Remain current in the barbering discipline through professional development activities, maintain familiarity with current industry practices and applicable licensing requirements, and participate in local, state, or national professional societies and meetings where appropriate.
- Assist in advising and registration, as assigned.
- Participate in program area, division, and faculty meetings; provide input on textbook adoption, program planning and evaluation, budgets, and the selection of supplies and equipment.
- Use the funds of the institution allocated to the budget of the department or to a special project in an effective and efficient manner.
- Complete required assessment documentation for each assigned course and submit appropriate files and documentation to the program coordinator.
- Work on standing and ad hoc committees of the College, as assigned.
- Support College activities and special events through attendance and participation, including advising of a campus club(s), teams, and/or other activities as assigned.
- Comply with all College policies, rules, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs and/or the President.
